Description
German work, stocked in hardwood, the mechanism made entirely of brass but for two steel springs. The cock in the form of a classical warrior with Greco-Roman helmet and a curved dagger, kneeling, the bracket holding the graduated wheel formed as a nude woman presenting herself. When the charge is lit, the cock snaps forward to mate against the bracket and indicates the strength of the powder. Maker marked, GAETIUS and stuck with an oval stamp. Early 18th century or later. Overall length 21.5cm. Condition II
