Description
Likely Circassian work, the slender, handsomely-striped hardwood stock with translucent grain, the steel parts, including the lock, lock screws, trigger and butt strap finely wrought and lavishly inlaid with gold, the mounts finely executed in silver, elaborately engraved and nielloed. The rifled octagonal barrel with swamped muzzle and breech finely inlaid with gold, and wrought of superb patternwelded damascus steel. Retains its ramrod with profiled tip. First half of the 19th century. Uncleaned, minor wear, period repair to butt on one side. Overall length 133cm. Condition III
