Likely French, the steel hilt superbly chiseled and pierced, and heavily gilded throughout, with bilobate guard, the fine, straight, double-edged blade of flamberge type, etched with baroque vine and tendril motifs and bearing an unusual eight-pointed star reputed to be a covert symbol of the Masons. Third quarter of the 18th century. Overall length 87.2cm. Condition II
