Mughal work, a robust example of classic form, the grips carved of elephant with characteristic broadly flared and cusped pommel. The oval guard and integral knucklebow elegantly sculpted, terminating in a makara head. The blade of classic recurved, double-edged form, and finely wrought of wootz with pronounced fullering and chiseled central panel, terminating in an armor-piercing tip. In its velvet-covered scabbard. 17th-18th century. Velvet refreshed. Overall length 32.6cm. Condition II
