Description
Mughal work, the elegant hilt finely inlaid with gold and silver borders in intricate vinework. The massive blade well-forged with three fullers on each side and a pronounced yelman or raised false edge, struck at the right forte with a crescent and sickle mark, and true-inlaid with the Mughal Imperial parasol. The spine at the forte intricately true-inlaid with a partially-effaced Arabic inscription, partially effaced. First half of the 18th century. Worn. The true-inlaid parasol mark indicates the sword belonged to the Mughal Emperor at one time, possibly Muhammad Shah (r. 1719-1748.) Overall length 87cm. Condition III
