Description
The deep green jade grip with characteristic rolled pommel and six rubies set in fine gold. The fine, heirloom blade shortened in its working life, wrought of superior black wootz and double fullered, the spine superbly paneled, inlaid with gold and set with two garnets, inscribed at the forte, SULTAN OSMAN. Early 17th century. The age, type and quality of the blade suggest the inscription refers to Sultan Osman II (r. 1618-1622.) Minor wear and losses to gold inlay, garnets later replacements. Overall length 61cm. Condition II
