Of the highest quality, with shirmani grips, the tangbands finely engraved with complex vinework. The elegant crossguard and pommel wrought of actively-grained wootz and inlaid with high-karat gold panels (a technique called zarneshan in Persian) bearing Quranic inscriptions in fine nastaliq calligraphy together with floriform borders. The exceptional blade forged of the finest Persian black wootz retaining its original surface and inlaid at the right forte with numerous cartouches of varying dates, the first reading SAFI SHAH, SERVANT OF THE RULER OF THE LAND and dated 1125 [1711C.E., in the rule of his son, Sultan Hussein.) The second a Baduh, or mystical square containing four characters with numerological values. The third cartouche is much earlier and heavily worn, it appears to bear the signature of ASSAD ALLAH. The fourth reading, SAHEB (Owner), the fifth calling upon ALLAH and ALI and 112, for Surah 112, the Surah of Sincerity. The sixth cartouche bears the untranslated owner?s name, and the date 1102 (1690 C.E.) The final cartouches contain the saying, THERE IS NO HERO LIKE ALI, NO SWORD LIKE ZULFAQAR! In its deep brown embossed leather-covered wooden scabbard, with fine wootz mounts decorated with high-karat gold en suite with the hilt, the chape likewise of wootz. Dated 1690-1711.
