Description
An exceptional Qajar era plate and mail armor composed of fine mail studded with numerous steel plates, protecting the waist, knees and shins, each lavishly inlaid with silver koftgari, and retaining the original embroidered goathide breeches. First half of the 19th century. Very minor wear. Quite similar examples of this rare armor are contained in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Stone Bequest, and at the Worcester Art Museum, Worcester, MA., Higgins Arms & Armor Collection, . Overall length 98cm. Condition II
