Description
Northern European, of Pappenheimer type. The guard straps forged with oval section, moulded at the ecusson and set with plates pierced in geometrical motifs of stars surrounded by polylobate circles, the faceted pommel of classic form and the wooden grip retaining its complex twisted wire wrap and turkshead knots. Double-edged tapering blade with a narrow central fuller running for approximately one third its length embellished with various symbols and struck at the forte on either side with maker?s marks. First half of the 17th century. Grip wire raveled, one guard bar removed in period. Areas of rust. Overall length 126cm.Condition III
