Description
Dayak Peoples, of characteristic form, made of a single large section of wood with raised central ridge, bound at each end with four rattan bands. Carved, incised and painted overall in black, red and yellow, and heightened with Reckitt?s Blue, depicting an aso dragon in the center with wild, staring eyes and lengthy fangs. The reverse with characteristic integral grip and well-incised and colored with pigments. Some areas of obverse possibly repainted in period. Mid-19th century. Minor losses to wood. Overall length 122cm. Condition II
