Description
A massive example with grips of tusk, the tangband reinforces inlaid with gold. The broad, recurved blade with gold inlaid panels, the T-back profiled, the edge raised and chamfered, with central ridge developing into an armor-piercing tip. Forged of fine, highly-contrasted Persian black wootz and inscribed in gold on the spine, VICTORY FROM GOD AND CONQUEST NIGH! Mid-18th century. In its silk-covered wooden scabbard. Worn, one tangband replaced in period. Overall length 36cm. Condition III
