Description
An extremely rare type, the work of a Tiflis (Tbilisi) master. The persiform hilt with steel pommel and guard, the long, curved wooden grip with central ridge covered with leather. The robust blade wrought of unusual local wootz, well-contrasted, and signed at either forte in inlaid cartouches, WORK OF ASSAD ALLAH ISFAHANI. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard, with large steel mounts en suite with the hilt. Late 18th-early 19th century or earlier. Well worn overall, losses to leather.
