Description
Ottoman Court workshop, made for a lady or boy of high standing at court. The grip formed of a single section of jade, carved in recess with vinework and gilded, the tombak pommel and guard heavily gilt and set with numerous rubies and turquoises. The straight, double-edged blade wrought of wootz visible in spots, and inlaid in gold with poetic verse referring to its use in drawing an enemy’s blood. In its fine embossed, engraved and gilded silver scabbard enriched with a band of turquoises. 19th c. Minor wear and rubbing. Overall length 22.5cm. Condition II
