Description
Cuban work, the distinctive horn hilt finely mounted in silver AND retaining its original silver knuckle chain, a variant of the type known as the ”Guanabacoa” (after the township in eastern Havana.) Mounted with a long, double-edged heirloom Spanish blade of flattened hexagonal section with three short fullers at either side of the forte, retaining its full length and etched, NO ME SACQUES SIN RAZON NO ME EMBAINES SIN HONOR (DO NOT DRAW ME WITHOUT REASON DO NOT SHEATHE ME WITHOUT HONOR. In its rare leather scabbard with gilt thread embroidery and dust guard intact. Mid-19th century. Minor wear, losses to tip of scabbard. Dating from the First Cuban War of Independence (1868-1878.)
