Description
The hilt of characteristic form, with broad, hooked pommel, wrought entirely of steel and elaborately inlaid is gold and silver in flowering vinework characteristic of Kubachi, the most famous sword-making center in the Caucasus. The massive blade of deep curvature, wrought with double fullers and etched with the sun, moon and stars. Struck at the forte with a makers mark inscribed in reverse Arabic calligraphy, WORK OF GHASI BABR (?) with radiused tip. First half of the 19th century. Inlay rubbed, blade lightly pitted. Overall length 103cm. Condition III
