Description
A fine example of Indian crafting for a British officer. The hilt of regulation form, with wirebound sharkskin grip and gilt guard embellished with the pierced VR monogram and folding counterguard. The fine pipeback blade with etched foliate motifs and MOLE & SON (likely spurious) at the left forte above a stand of arms. In its leather-covered scabbard with steel mounts. C. 1822-1845. Gilding worn, scabbard rubbed. Overall length 98cm. Condition III
