Description
Dani People, of characteristic form. The core formed from the inner bark of a tree, and tightly knotted over in continuous figure-eight technique with orchid vine, which also contributes the yellow and brown tones of the upper section. Connecting at the shoulders by means of cords. With good patina overall. From a collection formed in the 1960s. Late 19th century. Overall height 52cm. Last image is included for reference only. See the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco collections, accession mumber 2007.44.86 for quite similar. Condition II
