Description
The akinakes was made famous by the nomadic Scythians, adopted by the Persians and ultimately, the Greeks. Handwrought of iron with guard of addorsed crescent type and early flanged pommel, with straight, tapering double blade. 5th-3rd century b.c.e. Excavated. Overall length 33cm. Alexander the Great defeated the Scythians (or Saccae) at the Battle of Jaxartes in 329 b.c.e. Condition V
