Description
Carried before the Mahdi s warriors, handstitched of cotton panels in white, red, cream, tan and blue on a geometrical field with the Arabic inscription, MASH ALLAH! (WHAT GOD HAS WILLED HAS HAPPENED!) at the center, on a homespun backing. Three embroidered leather-bound velvet loops affixed to the right side allowed the banner to be flown. Latter 19th century. Well worn overall, tattered corners, loops resewn or replaced. Width 79cm. Condition IV
