Description
A seldom encountered form from the Deccan region. The massive, well-wrought head of crescent form, with fully-modeled peacock heads at the base of the blade likely evoking Krishna, and other Indian deific associations. The surface deeply chiseled with broad leaves with in geometrical borders and a pronounced, profiled hammer peen. The wooden haft set with numerous profiled brass mounts and bands with a long butt with expanded. 18th century. Well worn overall, haft likely replaced. Overall length 78cm. Condition IV
