Description
Early Qajar Dynasty work of fine quality, comprising a helmet, shield and armguard of classic form. The helmet with gold and silver inlaid spike finial, large demon horns, plume holders and captured nasal, the skull with fine pierced work backed with contrasting lacquered panels retained by brass studs and outlined in gold throughout, the rim with chiseled Quranic passages inlaid in silver, with characteristic camail terminating in a series of points. The shield decorated en suite with the helmet, with embossed sun in splendor and four inlaid central bosses and applied brass rim, finely pierced, backed with lacquered panels and bordered in brass studs, with gold outlines. The bazuband armguard decorated en suite with the helmet and shield, with embossed demon head, finely pierced and backed with lacquered panels bordered in brass studs, and gold outlines. Mid- 19th century. Shield diameter 47cm. Condition I
