Description
The blade of characteristic Khazar form, robust, shallowly curved and wrought with a distinct raised back edge or yelman, and thrusting tip. The robust bronze guard with rhombus-shaped ecusson and bead quillon finials. The en suite pommel a flattened cylinder with lobate terminal. 9th-10th century. Excavated. As found. An enduring form of sword which combines elegance and effectiveness; it influenced the type for a thousand years. Ex-Egil Haggmann Collection, N.Y. 1974. Overall length 79cm. Condition V.
