Description
The hilt wrought of fine, actively grained Persian wootz, elaborately profiled and engraved, with downturned quillons terminating in distinctive pierced monster heads. The massive blade finely wrought, possibly wootz, quite broad and extensively fullered, with a long back edge at the tip blade, and extensively inlaid with brass between each of the fullers together with inscriptions and cartouches at the forte including, VICTORY FROM ALLAH AND CONQUEST NIGH!, THERE IS NO HERO BUT ALI! and O ALLAH! MUHAMMAD! ALI! together with a badouh or magic square. In its restored leather-covered wooden scabbard with profiled iron mounts. Mid-19th century. Light wear. Overall length 94cm. Condition II
