Description
Mughal work, the Persianate hilt wrought of brass with trefoil quillons and knucklebow. The fine, robust blade forged of actively-grained black wootz, with long, finely profiled and pierced reinforce lavishly inlaid with silver, and at the right forte a worn rectangular gold cartouche inscribed WORK OF ASSAD ALLAH. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with mounts of profiled brass en suite with the hilt. Late 18th-early 19th century. Worn, inlay rubbed, blade with areas of pitting and sharpening. Leather worn. Overall length 88.7cm Condition III
