Description
Likely Greek or Albanian, comprising a turban and caftan (hirka.) The handwoven turban of off-white linen with geometrical borders and creased red velvet cap lined with chain mail. The elaborately-embroidered and sequined caftan of silk with silver braid and set with numerous brass disks intended to deflect sword and dagger cuts, and lined with a chain mail coat for further protection. 19th century. Showing some wear overall, turban with wear to the interior of the cap, caftan with rubbing, particularly to the edges. Length of caftan from collar to hem 76cm.
