Description
The hilt of characteristic form, with elephant grips bound at the base with braided silver wire and steel guard and pommel, both extensively inlaid with gold showing wear. The fine broad, curved blade wrought of Persian black wootz inlaid gold decoration at the forte on either side, together with a gold cartouche at the right forte reading, WORK OF KALB ALI ISFAHANI, well worn, together with a badouh, or magic square. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard with mounts decorated en suite with the hilt. 18th century. Gold decoration well worn overall, velvet renewed. Overall length 89.5cm. Condition III
