Description
Rarely encountered, with fine elephant grips, the pommel, tangbands and bosses all wrought of finely-embossed and engraved silver with steel guard. The long, broad heirloom Persian blade of shallow curvature, and wrought of fine Persian black wootz in the famous Ladder Pattern, showing prominent rungs for its entire length. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard, the steel suspension bands chiseled with Quranic inscriptions, the large locket and chape wrought entirely of silver, finely embossed and chased with complex vinework and geometrical borders. Early 19th century, blade earlier. Overall length 91cm. Leather and blade rubbed, areas of pitting. Condition III
