Description
Qajar era, the hilt of characteristic form, the guard wrought of Persian wootz damascus steel with remains of gold inlaid borders, bone grips and iron pommel. The blade of rare form, straight and broad, with a pair of narrow fullers at each side of the spine, and an acute, radiused tip designed for both thrusting and cutting with the point. Wrought of fine Persian wootz with a complex, active pattern, and elaborately chiseled at the forte on either side with Islamic inscriptions, that on the right from Quran, and on the left O JUDGE OF NEEDS! above the lion symbol of Assad Allah. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with gold-inlaid suspension band and long embossed, chased and gilded chape. Beginning of the 19th century. Blade rubbed with minor nicks, scabbard split at the spine. Overall length 95cm. Condition III
