Description
An excellent example of Kubachi mastery, the Ottoman-style hilt of silver, engraved and nielloed overall, with characteristic rolled pommel and guard with recuved quillons terminating in fleurettes, the knucklechain with filigreed bead intact. The broad, curved blade with narrow fullers to each side and elaborately etched inscription panels, together with a lion gripping a saber and a heroic king. The scarlet velvet-covered wooden scabbard with intricately chiseled and nielloed mounts en suite with the hilt. Third quarter of the 19th century. Period repair to langets, reverse of grip with stable crack. Central suspension band with minor repair to terminals, repairs to chape. Overall length 90.5cm. Condition IV
