Description
A massive example designed for cavalry, with large, cylindrical pommel, the guard forged of bars and pierced and profiled panels with characteristic double rings, the leather-covered wooden grip with inset copper band. Retains its original buff leather liner. The long, broad single-edged blade with back-edge, narrow fuller along the spine and broad central fuller and remains of marks at the forte. Mid-18th century. Minor pitting, copper band likely replaced. Overall length 108cm. Condition III
