Description
The hilt of characteristic form, with oval brass pommel and guard engraved at the center, the knuckle chain intact. The elephant grip inletted for three mother of pearl floral inlays on each side, one remains. The straight, single edged blade of complex and rare form, the broad flat spine developing into a back edge with clipped, radiused tip and wrought with three fullers, each pierced for their entire length, with a raised, chamfered cutting edge and further engraved with baroque motifs including a crescent moon. First half of the 18th century. Minor wear, grip chipped. Overall length 77cm/ 30.31”. Condition III
