Description
A seldom-encountered form from Palawan Island, capable of delivering an exceptional blow. The barong-type grip carved of a single section of hardwood with elaborately-carved pommel and set with woven rattan bands. The thick, straight blade expanding toward the tip with rounded terminal, showing what appear to be traces of forged construction throughout, and retaining much original sharpness. In its two-piece wooden scabbard carved overall in okir motifs. First half of the 20th century. Minor wear, blade with minor areas of pitting. Overall length 53cm/ 20.8”. Condition II
