Description
A rare example of the classic Polish combat weapon, with mottled blond horn grips with typical expanded and profiled pommel and steel guard displaying characteristically Polish trapezoidal langets found in the latter 18th century. The well-wrought blade long, double-fullered along the spine, with a fully developed yelman raised back edge terminating in a thrusting tip and struck with makers marks at the left forte, including several with crowns. Minor delaminations and, small repairs to grips, areas of light pitting to blade. Overall length 94.5cm/ 37.2”. See the British Royal Trust Collection, item RCIN 62143 at rct.uk/collection/62143/sabre-and-scabbard for a quite similar Polish hilt dating to the third quarter of the 18th century. Condition III
