Description
The characteristically-complex Oakeshott Type 2 hilt forged with robust flattened, profiled anddovetailed steel branches and integral thumbring. The characteristic brass “cats head” pommelquite thick in order to balance the long blade, the corded wooden with original leather wrap intact. The broad, double-edged heirloom blade original length and finely wrought with triple fullers extending to the midpoint with a lightly-struck German makers mark in the center fuller. Retains some original edge. Beginning of the 17th century. Minor wear overall. Overall length 102.8cm/ 40.5”. Condition II
