Description
German or Flemish, a robust example with well-wrought brass hilt of characteristic form with thumbring, pommel in the form of a fully-modeled lions head and solid clamshell guards, with original wire wrap intact. The long, handwrought single-edged blade with narrow fuller at the spine on each side and radiused cutting edge. Mid-17th century. Well worn, period repairs to wire wrap. Overall length 96cm/ 37.8”. Condition III
