Description
A high-quality example, the mounts wrought entirely of silver, the grip wrapped of finely braided wire, the oval pommel and quillon terminal with fully-modelled lions heads, with faceted ferrule and knucklebow with shell guard, The straight, broad, wedge-section blade with inlaid brass Prussian eagle and arsenal marks together with POTZDAM, the spear tip with chamfered false edge, and retaining much original sharpness. In its tooled and leather scabbard with silver locket and chape, the suspension band with acorn for frog. Retaining a by-knife with green stained stag grip and elaborately profiled spine. Latter 18th century. Blade with faint sharpening marks, minor scuffing to leather. Overall length 75.4cm/ 29.7”. Condition II
