Description
Mughal work of classic form, the fine pale green jade grip with rolled pommel and well-carved lotus motifs. The compact blade robust, curved and deeply hollow-ground with raised, chamfered cutting edge, terminating in a pronounced yelman or false edge terminating in a massive armor-piercing tip, wrought of exceptional black Persian wootz with gold vinework inlaid borders to the forte on either side and at the spine. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard elaborately lacquered in spiral gold vinework with silver chape. 18th-19th century. Areas of pitting, gold rubbed, chipped lacquer and split leather. Overall length 87.3cm/ 34.37”. Condition III
