Description
Of rare Taouzilt type, a superior example made for a Moroccan noble. The stock of characteristic form and, but for the profiled steel buttcap and forearm plate, covered entirely in finely embossed, engraved, nielloed and studded silver. The reverse of the lock with raised panels enameled in blue, red and yellow, and together with the triggerguard, set with glass gems in box settings. Mounted with a fine snaphaunce lock featuring a sliding pan cover. The octagonal barrel virtually covered with engraved and nielloed silver bands retaining it to the stock. Original ramrod intact. First half of the 19th century. Minor wear, one bolt screw replaced. Overall length 149.3cm/ 58.75”. Condition II
