Description
A very rare item worn throughout the Ottoman Empire, particularly in the Balkans and Greece. Made of layers of black leather laced tightly together with a central panel of red leather, through which the yataghan, dagger and pistols, together with other weapons and accoutrements, were held securely. The top flap covering a wallet. Embellished with plaitwork, appliques and brass studs. Retains its leather straps and brass buckles. Early 19th century.
