A very seldom-encountered form carried by the Beja of Northern Sudan, composed of thick hide with a semicircular notch at either side. With integral molded, original grip intact. Second half of the 19th century. The Beja were among the most committed followers of Muhammad Ahmad bin Abdullah bin Fahal, the renowned Mahdi of Sudan. Minor deformation. Diameter 56.3cm/22.16".
