Description
Mounted in its current fittings during the Qajar Dynasty, the hilt wrought entirely of steel hilt. The heirloom blade of fine workmanship; both long and broad, wrought of fine Persian wootz displaying a dramatic pattern throughout. Wrought with a series of rare interrupted fullers for its entire length on each side, each set separated by inlaid sprigs in brass and signed in an inlaid cartouche at the right forte BENDEYI VILAYETI NADIR SHAH (I am from the country of Nadir Shah.) In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with steel suspension band. Blade datable by inscription to 1736-1747, mounts first half of the 19th century. Areas of pitting, leather abraded. Overall length 98.2 cm 38 3/4". Condition II
