Description
The characteristic massive grip with scrolled pommel carved of a single large section of rare fibrous horn with engraved silver ferrule and filigreed silver pommel. The distinctive steel hilt forged with three drooping quillons and an angular knucklebow, each with bead finial, and heavily inlaid in silver geometrical patterns throughout. The robust European blade forged with three narrow fullers and long back edge, the tip with original spear point, struck at the forte with armors marks. In its fine silver-covered wooden scabbard, elaborately embossed and chased throughout, set with seven aventurine stones and 28 embossed and chased high-karat gold floral appliques. The chape struck with two hallmarks. Mid-19th century. Light wear to blade. Overall length 100.5 cm / 39 1/2". Condition I
