Description
A fine example of the type, the horn hilt with large, nielloed silver pommel and bolster and bosses, with silver wire wrap to grip. The broad, parallel-edged blade with obtuse tip, with gold inlaid panel at the forte and fine double central fullers to either side, and struck with the maker’s name, MUSTAFA. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard with large nielloed silver locket and chape en suite with the hilt, and steel suspension band inlaid with gold in vinework motifs. First half of the 19th century. Worn, silver wire wrap possibly replaced. Overall length 49 cm/ 19 1/3"". Condition III
