Description
Edo-era, very rarely encountered. A high-ranking samurai garment of padded violet fabric, enclosing a full coat of mail, the high collar with horn toggle and cord closure, lined in muslin fabric. With detachable mail sleeves connected by horn toggles, lined in blue cotton, block-stamped with large saffron and coral flowers. Latter 17th century. Minor wear to lining. Overall height 65 cm / 25 1/2". Condition II
