Description
An extremely scarce example, the form preserved for centuries in Scandinavia and Imperial Russian hinterlands, the archaic wooden stock with faceted butt, the characteristic lock, showing a variety of influences, and all other stock furniture handwrought. With thick-walled, small caliber barrel with inlaid brass panel struck with a cross. Retains its ramrod. 17th century or later. The first recorded examples of this type of weapon occurred during the late 16th century. They were rugged, reliable weapons popular for concealment in sleds, remaining in use, formally unchanged, until the late 19th century. Overall length 36cm / 14 1/8?. Condition III
