A rare example of characteristic form, the body formed of cane in a tightly-wound spiral, lightly domed in profile, with each ring wrapped in woolen cord. With applied studded steel boss, the whole covered in thick leather and entirely studded with brass coins. Grips and liner intact. 19th century or earlier. Well worn overall. Diameter 24.8cm. / 9 3/4" Popular in the Eastern Ottoman Empire where they were used aggressively while fighting in conjunction with the pala saber and hancer dagger.
