Description
Epirot work, revolutionary era. The wooden grips carved with chevrons and embellished with numerous brass studs and brass tangband, the steel guard of archaic form, quite broad with expanded, profiled quillon terminals. The blade extremely broad and multifullered, with characteristic false edge and semicircular aperture at the forte to facilitate gripping. Struck at the right forte with two makers marks, the first in the form of a ram, the other circular and beneath the guard. Late 18th ? early 19th century. Such blades were made for use at sea. Minor wear. Overall length 87.3cm / 34 ??. Condition II
