Description
A rare example of earlier form, the hilt with translucent horn grips and gilded guard, the mounts elegantly engraved in Ottoman motifs and gilded overall. The broad blade lightly-curved with pronounced yelman back edge and rare narrow central fuller, showing activity in the forging, possibly wootz. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard wire seam closure and large, gilded mounts decorated en suite with the hilt. Second half of the 18th century. Minor wear, slight dent to chape. Overall length 97.5cm / 38 ??. Condition II
