Description
Characteristic of swords mounted in Ottoman Damascus, an earlier example with steel guard and studded horn grips set with silver studs and steel pommel with gilt braid wrap to base. Mounted with a fine robust Persian heirloom blade, broad, thick, and wrought of fine, boldly patterned and contrasted black wootz, retaining considerable edge. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard with silver suspension bands. 18th-19th century. Guard, pitted, scabbard well worn. Overall length 104 cm / 41". Condition III
