Description
Of unusual form and fine workmanship, likely bespoke for presentation. The hilt of ebony elaborately inlaid with engraved silver panels and silver wire, inscribed MJR on one side and JUNE 10 1966 on the other. The massive blade of koumya form, curved and double-edged, with applied and engraved copper and brass plaques at the forte. In its deep red leather-covered wooden scabbard embellished with designs in black, ocher and green, with terminal tassel intact. Dated 1966. Minor wear. Morocco was a supporter of the West during the politically-complicated Cold War era; likely presented to an American diplomat at that time. Overall length 54 cm / 21 1/4?. Condition II
